The most beautiful way to experience the Wadden Sea is by mudflat hiking. This eco-friendly form of recreation takes you into a remarkably vast landscape, at a moment determined by nature itself. On the tidal flats, the elements set the rhythm of life, and anyone entering this unique environment must adapt accordingly.
Dijkstra’s Wadlooptochten, the largest and oldest mudflat hiking organization in the Netherlands, offer a wide range of tours. Options include educational walks, exploratory hikes, trips to Engelsmanplaat, or crossings to Ameland or Schiermonnikoog. A shorter route to Schiermonnikoog is also possible via the Brakzand tour. In addition, private tours for small groups can be arranged on dates outside the regular schedule, as well as complete mudflat hiking packages.
