Traditional shipbuilding crafts such as blacksmithing and sailmaking are highlighted. Hundreds of skûtsje parts and tools are atmospherically displayed. In a reconstructed roef (the skipper’s cabin), you can experience the life of a skipper in the old days. You’ll smell tar and pitch. You’ll feel the cramped quarters on board around 1900, when skûtsjes under sail carried daily cargoes of peat, clay, manure, and sand. - You’ll discover the tough reality of hard work, occasional poverty, and often the joy of a free life, driven by wind and water. - Today’s skûtsjes are also given plenty of attention. A unique wooden skûtsje is moored at the quay.
