Harlingen is the Eleven Cities town on the Wadden Sea. A beautiful town with a rich maritime past and present, built on what was once the seabed...
And you can see it: an extensive network of canals lined with stately merchants’ houses and historic warehouses. In the harbour, the traditional sailing ships of the Dutch Brown Fleet rise and fall with the rhythm of the waves. For many fishermen and other seafarers, Harlingen is home. In the town centre, you’ll find a variety of cafés, restaurants and plenty of shops.
Since 2018, a remarkable fountain has stood in the Zuiderhaven: Harlingen’s life-size whale.
