What is the origin of these village festivals

The origin of village festivals in Friesland is a bit mysterious! Each village has its own story, but we know these celebrations often grew out of various events like family parties, roller-skating competitions, and hunting festivals. They were so much fun that everyone in the village wanted to join! When those events became less frequent but the desire for celebration remained, the village festivals as we know them today emerged around 30 to 40 years ago. Of course, they have changed over the years, but many traditions are still very much alive.
