In SKS skûtsjesilen, the main contest is for the SKS championship. The title goes to the skipper who has collected the fewest penalty points.

The final ranking is determined after a series of eleven races. From the total number of points, the worst result is discarded. Penalty points resulting from a protest cannot be discarded as the worst result and always count towards the overall ranking.
The skûtsje with the lowest total of points after the final race is crowned SKS champion. If two or more skûtsjes are tied on points, the finishing order in the last race determines the final ranking.
