Reformed Church (Hofkerk)
Hurdegaryp
One of the many locations in Hurdegaryp with a historical story
Take a look
The church of Hurdegaryp is a special place with a long history. Long before the current church was built, an earlier church stood in the area south of the village. Later, the church stood on an islet near what is now the Koopmansbosje, until the present hall church was built in 1711.
This 1711 church was built by master carpenter Eilef Jehannes from Wyns. Above the entrance, memorial stones and family coats of arms can still be seen, recalling the construction of the church and the prominent families involved in its history. The heavy door, covered on the outside with large nails, also gives the building a distinctive character. This makes the church not only a striking landmark in Hurdegaryp, but also a tangible reminder of the village’s rich past.
