The Súd Ie is a beautiful boating route between Dokkum and the Lauwersmeer.

Practical Information for Your Boat
Since June 1, 2024, the Súd Ie is suitable for DM-class boats with limited draft. The exact dimensions are: maximum draft of 1.10 meters, 4 meters wide, 2.40 meters in height, and a length of 15 meters. All bridges are built at a height of 2.50 meters—see the water map for details. The 10 centimeters difference is clearance.

Boat Rental
Want to head straight onto the Súd Ie? It’s best to rent a sloop or fishing boat at Scheiershoek (Dokkum/Oostrum) or at Boat Rental La Barca in Oostmahorn. Planning a full day trip? Cruise around via the Dokkumer Grootdiep. B&B de Gastenkamer in Ee also rents sloops. Looking for a boat with character? Contact the rental company ‘Varen met Sil’ and depart from Kollum.

Locks
The route is approximately 12 kilometers long. Two locks mark the route. The Oosterverlaat lock at Schapedijkje in Dokkum is a historic monument and is operated for you by the lock keeper. Call Brugwacht Dokkum 10–15 minutes in advance: +31 6 22 28 28 61.

Lock operating hours:

• April, May, and October: 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM

• June, July, August, and September: 9:00 AM to 6:30 PM

The lock at the Landal Esonstad holiday park can be operated by yourself. Clear instructions help you pass through the lock easily. If it doesn’t work, the park staff will gladly assist you!

Mooring spots
Along the route, four Marrekrite mooring places have been created. Water sports enthusiasts may stay here for a maximum of three days free of charge, provided they follow the rules. The mooring spots can be found at Bastion, Jouswier (Reidswâl), Anjumer Kolken, and Ezumazijl. All locations have 60 meters of space available, except Bastion, where approximately 30 meters are available.
